Some of you might know what K-pop is, and the influence it has among Indian Youth. But the rest are not so familiar with the world of K Pop. But do you have any idea a small south Indian state like Kerala became the hotspot for K Pop fans, To be more Specific “BTS army”?
What Is K Pop?
Well. K pop means Korean pop music. It’s a music genre that emerged in South Korea. K pop music is a mix of different variety music like rock, jazz, gospel, hip hops, etc.. and the specialty of K pop is that the idols are great at singing as well as dancing, and they perform it in a way that grabs the heart of music fans around the world.
In India, K Pop lovers are growing day by day. Earlier K-pop music was barely heard in India, that too in northeast India. The mixed style of music, the way of presentation, the collaboration of both dancing and singing at the same time, all attracted Indian viewers who seek different kinds of music no matter what the language is. The open-minded northeast Indians gave a warm welcome to K-pop and the Korean culture.
In short, they brought some milkweed follicle seeds of K-pop and spread it all over India and every single seed becomes a milkweed plant. After conquering the North India, K pop has finally reached in South India as well, Even in the small state of Kerala.
How Kerala Became The Hotspot For BTS Army
When it comes to South India, Kerala is one of the states with the most number of BTS followers. Old armies who have been stanning BTS for years might have not expected this change in the number of BTS followers. But how exactly did that happen? People always want a change, no matter what it is. And Kerala is a state that accepts anything “Unique”, they welcomed BTS with open hearts. Their soulful lyrics and synchronized choreographies made them an instant favorite among the young generation of Kerala. Armies in Kerala enjoyed their quarantine time with BTS. Active BTS Army groups were created on SNS [Instagram, Facebook, and whatsapp]. And these groups become places where people can share their feeling and emotions. Like some armies tell, they became a ‘family’.

Army’s support each other and do charity also. Most of the charity works in Kerala take place through the Purple Wings Project. Even though we don’t have an exact number regarding the fandom size, It’s expected to be around 10k-20k. BTS Army’s in Kerala and increasing day by day. Now in this era, it’s really hard to not know this Three letter music band “BTS”. Yes! it’s the truth. Recently, the Indian Army’s created an event called “stream battle” among all Indian states. #TeamBluesky with Kerala won both days proving the power of Kerala Armys.
Social Media Power
When it comes to social media marketing BTS is the best. This is one of the main reasons in Kerala becoming the hotspot of BTS Army. Fan accounts in prominent social media apps like Youtube, Helo, Tiktok, Instagram, etc had a pivotal role behind BTS’s and Army’s growth in Kerala. On 25th September 2019, BTS officially joined the short video sharing app Tiktok. Tiktok had over 20 million users in India at that time. From that day BTS made a very big sensation in Kerala, which gave birth to a lot of new A.R.M.Y. Despite not knowing the language, Keralites fall in love with BTS and Korea. BTS taught the world that there’s nothing called a language barrier when it comes to Music.
Who Is BTS?
BTS is the short form of The seven-membered boy group called “Bangtan sonyeondan”. This group was founded by Bang si- Hyuk, CEO of Big hit Entertainments in 2010 and officially debuted on 13th June 2013 with the single album “2 Cool 4 Skool” and the title track “No more dream”. BTS’s label Bighit Entertainment’s motto is “Music and Artist For Healing”, which is BTS’s priority as well.
Unlike the normal typical boy groups concept, their lyrics touch subjects like mental health, youth and female empowerment, child abuse, cyberbullying, self-love & development, socio-economic injustices, and so on. BTS is not afraid to use their platform to amplify under-represented voices and issues, taking numerous risks with their career while receiving backlash from people in power. In short, BTS became the voice of “The Youth”. Something that every Army knows and never forgets is The “BTS Fanchant“ which are usually chanted at the beginning or during instrumental breaks of their songs.
Once Kim Taehyung (v) said that Purple is the last color of the Rainbow. Purple stands for love which means ” I will Trust and love you for a long time” Since that Purple is considered as the official color of the fandom. This means so much to the Army’s as they usually use a purple heart as a symbol of love.
What Next For BTS?
Until last year Indian media or entertainment channels showed no interest in K Pop. But Now It has reached a state where BTS being interviewed by the reputed news channels in India, and even organizing special programs for member’s Birthdays. Every K Pop fan loves their group wholeheartedly, but BTS created a fandom culture that brings together fans with different cultural backgrounds and racial identities. Army always supports BTS, no matter what. And BTS is proud of Army as they have thanked them countless times in their career.
